In October of 1981, the HABC entered into a 33-year contract with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to construct a $1.9 million - 75 unit multi-family complex. This project is named after the Community Leader Remigio Valdez Jr., past president of the Mexican American Betterment Organization.
This project is operated and maintained for the primary purpose of providing housing for domestic farm laborers and their immediate families. Floor plans consist of:
1 bedroom/1 bath - 625 sq. feetA completed application is required with a $25.00 application fee to determine eligibility and be placed on the waiting list. Additional application requirements are a picture I.D. for all household members 18 years of age or older, birth certificates and social security cards for all household members, proof of income such as Social Security/SSI benefit letter, child support verification, employment wage (paycheck stubs). Verification documents must not be more than 30 days old. Farm labor income proof must be within the last 12 months. All applicants with farm labor income within the past 12 months will take priority over anyone else on the waiting list.
Colonia Remigio Valdez Apartments support the Fair Housing Act as amended and prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, handicap or familial status. All applicants and co-applicants must be 18 years of age or older unless protected under the familial status per the Fair Housing Act amendment.
