Section 8 Housing
choice voucher program
The
Section 8 Program was created by the Housing & Community Development Act of
1974. The purpose of the Section 8 Program is to achieve five major objectives.
a.
Provide
improved living conditions for low and very low-income families and provide
affordable housing. b.
Promote
freedom of housing choice and de-concentration of lower income and minority
families. c.
Provide
decent, safe and sanitary housing for eligible participants and d.
Create an
atmosphere of self-sufficiency. e.
Provide
an incentive to private property owners to rent lower income families by
offering timely assistance payments and protection against unpaid rent.
